KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday held a full court reference for outgoing Justice Munib Akhtar, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court.

Justice Munib was sworn in as the SHC judge on September 25, 2009 and heard many important cases including the Sindh Inspector General AD Khawaja’s removal, the one related to National Testing Service (NTS) test for admissions in the government-run medical colleges and universities.

Besides SHC judges, the federal and provincial law officers, representatives of lawyers’ bodies except Sindh Bar Council and senior lawyers were also present. The SBC representatives were barred to attend the reference as they held a press conference against Justice Munib’s elevation to the apex court. It cited the elevation of a judge who was junior than three sitting judges a violation of the rules.

After the elevation of Justice Munib, the number of SHC judges has now decreased to 38 against the sanctioned strength of 40.
