LAHORE: The Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) on Thursday congregated at Mall Road to protest for their rights and get the govt to concede to their demands.
The medics belong to various hospitals in Lahore including Children Hospital Lahore (CHICH), Lahore General Hospital (LGH), Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex (SZMC), Jinnah Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, and Services Hospital.
As a result of the protest, roads outside the aforementioned hospitals and major roads including Queens’ Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road and Canal Road remained jammed with traffic and bottlenecks.
The YDA demands an increase in salaries, the safety of all staff, implementation of their service structure, regularisation of post-graduate trainers, as well as, the hiring of staff to fill vacancies in various public hospitals as they are burdened with twice the workload due to the shortage.
Similarly, the protest was replicated by the YDA in Multan, Faisalabad and other cities on Punjab.
Punjab YDA President Dr Maroof, while speaking about the protest said, “We want the government to accept our legitimate demands. We are merely protesting, we haven’t even called a strike.”
