KARACHI: A judicial commission on water and drainage in Sindh ordered local and provincial authorities to clear Karachi’s footpaths and roads of debris within 15 days, reported a local media outlet.

Justice (r) Amir Hani Muslim heads the commission and warned Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), cantonment authorities and District Municipal Corporations (DMC) that strict action would be taken if they did not comply with the commission’s orders.

Sindh chief secretary was also ordered to ensure that the orders were obeyed and deputy commissioners were asked to monitor the ‘cleaning’ drive.

The commission also ordered Karachi police chief Mushtaq Mahar and other authorities concerned to extend protection to Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Managing director Taha Farooqi.

Farooqi apprised the commission that absentee employees were not being paid anymore but union leaders had damaged the biometric attendance machines.
