PESHAWAR: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar on Tuesday announced to postpone the intermediate examinations as a result of a strike by the board employees.

In conversation with a local news channel, BISE Chairperson Professor Dr Fazlur Rehman said that the new date would be announced soon, adding that the exams would likely to be held from April 26 instead of April 20.

However, the new date has yet to be formally announced.

Meanwhile, the strike has been called off after the protesting employees hold a meeting with KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, who assured them of not tabling the bill that could affect the autonomy of the board. The president of board employees’ council, Tariq Safi, confirmed that the strike was called off and that the employees would resume work on Wednesday.

The Peshawar board employees were on strike over a bill that they feared would affect the autonomy of the board and voiced their reservations over the decision of bringing the board under the education department. They said that the process would pave way for political interference.
