RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police on Sunday killed three suspects, who had escaped from police custody in Khushab earlier in April, in an alleged police encounter.

Media reports said that suspects Masood, Imran and Nasir had escaped from the lockup at Jauharabad police station in Khushab on April 4.

The absconding suspects had been detected through the tracking system installed in a vehicle after a tip-off from Khushab police, according to the Motorway Police.

These suspects were then surrounded by the police at Chakri Service area when the police blocked traffic.

An additional police contingent was also called in from Rawalpindi to arrest the suspects, who opened fire after sighting the police. The suspects injured at least one policeman.

The absconders were killed when Rawalpindi police opened fire in retaliation, sources said.
