ISLAMABAD: Radio Pakistan Director General (DG) Shafqat Jalil said on Monday that the media can play an important role by serving as a bridge in promoting the essence and spirit of the One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative.
He said this while addressing ‘Media Leaders’ Summit’ under the banner of Boao Forum in China.
The DG said the Pakistani electronic and print media had played its due role in highlighting the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and OBOR initiative.
He said there was a need to enhance cooperation and consolidate public opinion by offering intellectual support for OBOR.
Referring to the rapid technological transformation around the globe, Jalil called on regional countries to focus on utilising mobile technologies that have the capacity to reach even the remotest customer in the poorest countries of the region.
He further said that our focus should be on a more inclusive, balanced and sustainable development strategy for the Asian countries. He also said that all regional countries needed to work together to minimise the risks, maximise benefits, and overcome challenges to Asia’s overall development.
Moreover, Jalil said there was a need for innovation and ingenuity both in policy formulation and policy application.
He reiterated that issues, including coordination for ensuring mutually beneficial endeavours in a peaceful and secure setting, cohesive laws regarding the movement of humans and merchandise, taxation policies, tariff and non-tariff barriers, regional infrastructure for better communications and convertibility of currencies must be addressed to accelerate growth and economic development.
In the end, Jalil said that Pakistan offered ample opportunities for cooperation in the fields of infrastructure development, transportation, cultural exchanges, transregional trade, investment and integration, agriculture and media cooperation.
