LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday ordered the exhumation of the seven-year-old girl murdered after being raped in Jaranwala.
During the suo motu hearing of the case, the apex court ordered the medical superintendent of Allied Hospital to conduct a second post-mortem of Mubashra’s body. The court also ordered the prosecutor general to submit a report pertaining to the investigation of the case along with the forensic samples of the deceased’s body.
As the hearing proceeded, the chief justice also expressed concern over the slow pace of investigation. Upon this, Inspector General of Punjab Police Arif Nawaz Khan assured the court that investigation is being conducted from different angles.
On April 1, the dead body of Mubashra, allegedly raped and killed, was recovered from the fields near Jaranwala city. On Tuesday, the post-mortem report confirmed that the minor was raped and tortured before being killed. The report mentioned that 21 torture marks were found on the child’s body.
Following Mubashra’s murder and police’s inability to arrest the suspects, protests broke out in Faisalabad on April 2 while a complete shutter-down strike was observed in Jaranwala.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice of the rape and murder case on April 2 and ordered the Punjab IG to submit a report before the court within 48 hours.
