THATTA: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader and Senator Sasui Palijo stated that the Indus River System Authority’s (IRSA) injustice towards provinces by unfairly distributing water among provinces is unbearable and would be taken up on the floor of the upper house soon.

She expressed these views while talking with the local media here in Thatta the other day.

She said that she had already moved an adjournment motion and PPP intend to go for a debate on it during the next session of the upper house to strongly plead Sindh’s case.

Rejecting the Ithe RSA’s claim that Sindh had only faced a 34 per cent shortage of water during the Kharif season, Senator Palijo argued that even today, the low-lying districts of the province like Thatta, Badin, Sujawal and other certain parts of districts were witness of no water even for drinking purpose.

She maintained that IRSA appears to be reluctant to pursue the implementation of the 1991 Water Accord in letter and spirit, utterly failing to ensure the release of water to Sindh as per its provisions despite the fact that Sindh had already registered its reservations in this regard.

Claiming that those in the federal government are obstructing the flow of water to Sindh besides denying it adequate natural resources like electricity and gas, she further accused the central government of pursuing its hidden agenda of sabotaging the interests of people of Sindh. She warned that the people of Sindh would resist any such moves both in the elected houses and streets.

Senator Palijo stressed over the federal government and ISRA to formulate a policy based on authentic facts and figures of requirement and demand. They would also have to incorporate Sindh’s recommendation in the policy, she stressed.
