ISLAMABAD: A team of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), headed by its Chairman Usman Mobin, on Monday gave a detailed presentation to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar along with Justice Umer Ata Bandial and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan.

They were hearing the case regarding the overseas Pakistanis right to vote in the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Monday.

The NADRA team gave a detailed brief to members of the bench about the way forward to empower overseas Pakistanis with the ability to cast their vote in general election through the internet.

They apprised the judges that a preliminary software has been developed to extend the electronic voting facility to overseas Pakistanis in the general election.

The judges observed that this development may be shared with all other stakeholders including the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and parliamentarians so that extending the voting ability to overseas Pakistanis through the internet may be achieved in time.

The case was fixed for April 03, 2018.

In January, NADRA had told the top court that the software enabling overseas Pakistanis to vote will be functional by April.
