ISLAMABAD: The tenure of the current National Assembly (NA) will end on May 31, followed by a caretaker setup before the general elections are held, according to a report by a local media outlet.
President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned an NA session on April 10 at 5 pm in the Parliament House, which is expected to be the second last session of the lower house of parliament and would run for a week, according to the report.
The budget session of the NA is expected to run on May 15- May 16 and would possibly be the last session under the current legislature.
The current NA has passed 164 bills and several bills were passed during the joint sitting of both houses of parliament.
The parliamentary year of the NA begins on June 1 of the calendar year and consists of 130 days. The session of the lower house of parliament is called on even Saturdays and Sundays in the parliamentary days when generally there is no sitting of the house.
The first NA session under the current legislature was held on May 11, 2013, in which the Finance Bill 2013 was passed. It will hopefully end its business by passing the budget for Financial Year 2018-19.
