ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has given a 24-hour deadline to the government to clarify its stance on Federal Minister Daniyal Aziz’s ‘threats’ to the members of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhary, in a statement on Sunday, said that call for the arrest of ECP officers involved in the delimitation of constituencies by Federal Privatisation Minister Daniyal Aziz is a clear threat.
“All of this is being done at the behest of the prime minister and disqualified leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N),” PTI spokesperson alleged.
On Saturday, the working group of a special committee of the National Assembly rejected delimitation of new constituencies by ECP as per latest census and recommended conducting the 2018 elections under old constituencies.
The working group, which met Aziz in the chair, includes members of different political parties, recommended constituting a federal inquiry commission, under a presidential ordinance, to investigate who marked the new delimitations at ECP.
On March 5, ECP issued initial delimitation of provincial and national constituencies on the bases of population census carried out earlier this year.
