Winner of PSL final in Karachi to get own MQM faction

KARACHI – Ahead of Sunday’s final of the third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) between Islamabad United and XXX, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi has announced that the winner would get their own faction of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), along with the PSL trophy and the prize money.

The announcement comes as Karachi hosts its first high profile cricket match in a decade, with the political situation having changed considerably since the last international match the city hosted, which was against Sri Lanka.

PCB officials have also informed The Dependent that the decision was taken keeping in mind that Karachi will be hosting a big chunk of international and PSL matches in the coming years.

“Giving the winning side the incentive of having their own MQM faction would make them feel even more welcome and a part of the city of Karachi,” a PCB official said.

It has further been reliably learnt that as Karachi hosts all three matches of the West Indies series early next month, a separate MQM-WI faction has already been created for the Windies regardless of who wins that tri series.
