IIUI president says role of varsities vital for dissemination of peace

ISLAMABAD: International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) President Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh has said that the IIUI is striving to serve the Muslim world with a vision of promotion of peaceful co-existence, along with a quality education of the youth integrated with teachings of Islam blended with moderation.

In an interview at the varsity here Tuesday, Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh said that the university has also signed more than 60 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with various national and international organisations and universities during last few years.

The IIUI president further said that the university currently hosts approximately 3,500 students from various Arab, Islamic and international countries, while a large chunk of Chinese, are also a part of these international students as well.

Dr Al-Draiweesh called upon the Muslim scholars to have a look into the curricula and put efforts to form a well devised educational policy. He furthered that Intellectual and academicians be brought in to establish a roadmap for a balanced educational curriculum with an ample blend of Islamic teachings.

He maintained that vision of Pakistan’s education ministry was exquisite and ministry and HEC both were providing maximum support and cooperation to the universities. If educational institutions cooperate with them, the society will soon have remarkable minds and skilled personalities.

Replying to a question, Dr Al-Draiweesh said that youth are an asset of the Muslim world and young minds are a ray of hope, so it is a responsibility of youth to nullify the objectives of negative elements by showing positivity in society and promoting Islamic values, peace. They must seek guidance from the Holy book in all aspects of life, he added.

He specifically mentioned that the Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative of the university was part of its vision that it will keep providing narratives and solution to the contemporary challenges of the hour.

The IIUI president also said that negative elements use Islam’s name for the dissemination of violent attitudes, while in Islam there is no place for violence and terrorism and it’s a religion of peace. He furthered that the universities can play a vital role in stability among the societies and the dissemination of peace, adding that Paigham-e-Pakistan through IIUI was a visible example.
