Won’t bow down to US demands of making Pakistan peaceful: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Thursday that the state will not try to make Pakistan a more peaceful and safer country to live in, to defy the interests of the United States.

Talking to the media here, Asif said that Pakistan will frame its policies keeping in view the exact opposite of American interests.

“We will no more sacrifice our policies for the sake of the US. We will see what suits them and formulate foreign and security policies that are in complete contradiction of that,” he said.

“We are not going to strive to become a peaceful, tolerant and countries, because the US wants that. We are not going to start eliminating terrorism in compliance with other states’ desires,” Asif said.

The Foreign Minister maintained that nothing is more important than state sovereignty.

“Helping others’ policies is a direct breach of our own sovereignty, even if it might mean that less people would be killed in Pakistan and less people would fear for their lives,” he said.

The minister said if the US wanted peace Pakistan, it should desire the opposite.

“We were actually hoping that would be the case once Donald Trump became president. But in typical duplicity it turns out that the Trump regime too wants a peaceful and non-violent Pakistan,” Asif said.

“We definitely aren’t going to give them what they want.
