NAWABSHAH: Twenty-six policemen including an assistant sub-inspector were arrested on Thursday for defying Sindh High Court’s (SHC) orders by allowing heavy traffic to pass over Qazi Ahmed-Aamri bridge on river Indus.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Sajid Ameer Suddozai took serious notice of defiance of court orders and permitting heavy traffic to pass through Qazi Ahmed-Aamri bridge. The SHC in its order on Constitutional Petition No.1641 of 2016 had banned plying of heavy traffic on the said bridge due to single narrow lane causing accidents. SSP Sajid while talking to the media disclosed that police contingent of 26 policemen including assistant sub-inspector was getting the bribe from heavy vehicles and permitting them to cross the bridge in contravention of the orders of SHC. SSP, upon complaints and evidence, raided the police post and arrested 26 policemen including and lodged them at Taluka Police station and Qazi Ahmed Police station.

He said that the court had instructed to use National Highway for heavy traffic. He further said that an investigation would be done in this regard.
