KARACHI: The local police arrested two diesel smugglers among 21 alleged criminals while their search operation lasting 24 hours, a senior official claimed on Tuesday.
Steel Town Police Station received tip-off before foiling the plan of smuggling 5,000 litres of Iranian diesel. The alleged smugglers were identified as Shoukat Khan and Muhammad Suleman.
The seized oil tanker with registration number DUA -206 was handed over to the Pakistan Customs for further probe.
Sources inside police said the crackdown was against street criminals. The law enforcement agency covered different areas of the metropolis including Baghdadi, Shershah, and Ibrahim Hydari.
Among 21 alleged criminals, the 12 arrested were identified as Yaseen, Abdul Hameed, Nazeer Akhtar, Ilyas, Nazair Imran, Shoaib, Sagheer, Hameed, Ayaz, Rehmat Ali, Feroz, and Imran.
It was added that the police also recovered weapons, and valuables – including one pistol, two snatched motorbikes and 13 cell phones.
Moreover, police took seven drug peddlers into custody in raids conducted at Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulberg, Zaman Town, and Model Colony.
Hug quantity of drugs including hash, wine and gutka was recovered from the accused who were identified as Saddam Hussain, Muhammad Tahir, Altaf, Mazhar, Muhammad Rehan, Junaid, and Zeshan.
