LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri on Thursday said the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) presidency is a victory of the Constitution.
According to a statement issued by the party, a liar, corrupt and a disqualified person should be kicked out for the lifetime.
The PAT chief said the verdict of Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan proved that it is the coterie of N-League that is ridiculing the Parliament and sanctity of the vote.
He was of the view that the SC ruling is a snub to those who raised a disqualified person to the party’s presidency. Nawaz Sharif will soon be arrested in corruption cases, he added.
On Wednesday, the SC had announced that a person who doesn’t qualify on Article 62 and 63 of the constitution can also not hold the office of the presidency of any political party.
SC had also annulled all decisions made by Nawaz Sharif as the party president.
It added that the tickets for Senate elections issued by him will now be cancelled. The ruling party will now have to re-announce its candidates for the Senate polls that were scheduled for next month.
The SC had also directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to remove Nawaz’s name from the column of party presidents. The Section 203 of the Election Act should be read with the Article 62 and 63 of the constitution, SC remarked.
