ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior Tuesday strongly condemned the ongoing Indian aggression across the Line of Control (LoC), and the United States’ (US) move to place Pakistan on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) watch list of countries funding terrorism.

The committee, which met here at the Parliament House with Senator Rehman Malik in the chair, unanimously adopted two resolutions in this regard.

The resolution moved by Rehman Malik read, “The Senate Standing Committee on Interior condemns the move by certain member states of FATF to place Pakistan on the body’s watch-list. This move has been engineered by the USA and India with mala fide intentions and it will not only affect the ‘War on Terror’ but also Pakistan’s economy. We call upon the West and member states of the FATF to reject this move, as Pakistan, being the worst victim of terrorism, deserves international support to not be placed on the FATF grey-list.”

Rehman Malik said that there was always Indian hand behind every anti-Pakistan move.   He further added, “We as a nation thank the government of China for opposing the US’ anti-Pakistan move to place Pakistan on FATF’s watch-list.”

The senator also asked the international community to respect Pakistan’ sacrifices in the war against terrorism, as it suffered more than any other country. “By such negative moves against Pakistan, India actually wants to weaken us economically and to harm international community’s efforts against terrorism,” he added.

He further said that he had already charge-sheeted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his crimes against humanity and war crimes against innocent Kashmiri people, and asked the government of Pakistan to move against Narendra Modi in International Criminal Court.

The committee also discussed The Criminal Laws (Amendment) Protection of Rights of Transgender Persons Bill 2017, moved by Senator Rubina Khalid and deferred it due to the absence of the mover.

Speaking on the bill, Rehman Malik said that the said bill was highly important and he would seek extension from the house. He added that he was shocked to know that Kohat police had refused to register a first information report (FIR) on the complaint of a transgender.

The committee also considered Islamabad Capital Territory (Prohibition of Interest on Private Loan) Bill 2018 moved by Senator Sirajul Haq and deferred it due to the absence of the mover.

The Miscarriage of Justice Compensation Bill 2017 and three other bills moved by Senator Muhammad Azam Khan Swati were withdrawn.

The committee expressed its resentment over the delay in suspending the notification issued by the government with regard to cancellation of arms licenses issued to parliamentarians, high ranking functionaries and notables for protection.  The committee constituted a coordination committee under Sardar Fateh Muhammad to look into the matter.

Senators Javed Abbasi, Sardar Fateh Hassani, Shahi Syed, Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini and Saleh Shah attended the meeting. The meeting was also attended by secretaries of interior, and law and justice, besides Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) chairman and other ministry officials.
