LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued yet another notice to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) regarding anti-judiciary remarks made by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz.

LHC issued notices to them and other official respondents to submit their comments on the petition by February 23.

The bench directed PEMRA to depute its representative to apprise the court of the measures the regulatory body had taken to stop TV channels from airing remarks slandering the judiciary.

Earlier in January, LHC while hearing a petition regarding anti-judiciary remarks made by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, issued a notice to PEMRA.

The petition stated that Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz committed contempt of court during their speeches in a public gathering at Haripur.

The petitioner has pleaded for the initiation of contempt proceedings against them and seeks directives to PEMRA for stopping news channels from airing their speeches targeting the judiciary.

LHC bench, taking up the petition, issued a notice to PEMRA, seeking its reply.
