WELLINGTON: New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been described as an “anti-Trump” in a glamorous feature in iconic American magazine Vogue’s March edition.

In the profile published on Thursday, author Amelia Lester describes the 37-year-old as “young, forward-looking, and unabashedly liberal.”

Lester labels the world’s youngest female prime minister, who is expecting her first child in June, as “the real deal.”

The article refers to ‘Jacindamania’ – the stellar rise of Ardern’s popularity before the September 23 election – as well as her strong stance in fighting climate change and desire for a “kinder” brand of politics.

Ardern’s cat Paddles, who briefly became a Twitter celebrity before being fatally hit by a car, gets a mention as does the prime minister’s feisty encounter with Trump when he apparently mistook her for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife Sophie.

The photoshoot features Ardern at Auckland’s Bethells Beach wearing a pair of sage green Herriot pants and a trench coat from Harman Grubisa, both New Zealand designers.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has taken the fashion bible into new territory, going beyond arts and culture coverage to include articles on political topics and personalities.

Other politicians profiled by US Vogue include former Democratic Senator and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
