SUNJWAN: Two Indian soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO), were killed and four persons were injured after suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists attacked the Sunjwan army camp in Indian occupied Kashmir early on Saturday morning. The area has currently been cordoned off, reported by Indian media.
The ANI reported that the India police informed that three security personnel and a civilian suffered injuries in the attack.
Jammu Inspector General of Police (IGP) S D Singh Jamwal said, “In the morning around 4:45 a.m. Militants fired upon one gate… One army man, his daughter, and two others sustained injuries as per the reports. Militants number is not known as of now”.
According to sources, three to four terrorists breached the rear side of the Sunjwan camp of the 36 Army Brigade, barged into the JCO family quarters in the garrison and opened fire.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh directed the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) to look into the attack, the ANI further reported.
He also spoke to Indian occupied Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid regarding this matter.
Meanwhile, the security forces have cordoned off the area and are conducting a search and combing operation.
However, Times of India reported that heavy firing is on after the arrival of the Army’s special forces and SOG.
Schools within 500 metres of the camp have been asked to remain closed by the district administration.
Intelligence inputs had warned an attack on the army or security establishment by JeM in view of the death anniversary of Afzal Guru who was hanged on February 9, 2013.
