Govt providing all facilities to IDPs: info minister

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid informed the Senate on Monday that the government is providing all facilities to the Internally Displaced People (IDPs).

Speaking on the floor of the House, he said, “The government and the whole nation consider IDPs as their guests and are providing all facilities to them.”

He said that full assistance was being provided to all IDPs without any discrimination.

The government has also provided transport facilities to majority of the IDPs and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has given Rs40,000 to each internally displaced family for the month of Ramazan.

He said govt would welcome the suggestions of the members of the Senate for mitigating the sufferings of IDPs.

Later, the minister moved a motion authorising Senate Chairman Nayyar Bokhari to make nominations in consultation with leaders of parliamentary parties, in proportion to their representation in the House, for the parliamentary committee being constituted to evaluate shortcomings of previous elections and make recommendations for electoral reforms to ensure that elections are held in a free, fair and transparent manner.
