Mardan rape and murder case: Asma’s family terrorised by prime suspect’s friend

MARDAN: A close friend of Muhammad Nabi, a prime suspect in four-year-old Asma’s rape-murder case, terrorised the family of the minor by barging into Asma’s home and harassing the family, reported a local media outlet on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police claimed to arrest the prime suspect in the case. 

However, the neighbours caught the intruder, armed with a knife, and handed him over to the police.

Four-year-old Asma had gone missing on January 14 in Mardan’s Gujar Garhi area, and her dead body was found from sugarcane fields near her house on January 15. Later, the forensic testing had confirmed that the child was subjected to sexual abuse before being killed.

Addressing a presser earlier, Mardan Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dr Mian Saeed announced the arrest of prime suspect Nabi and another suspect.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police said the prime suspect was a close relative of four-year-old Asma’s who was raped and murdered. The police also claimed that the accused has confessed to the rape and murder.

Another individual, Fawad, was taken into custody who was suspected to be the accomplice of the main accused.
