ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday constituted a three-member bench to hear the contempt of court case against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Daniyal Aziz for his contemptuous speeches against the Supreme Court (SC) and its judges.
The bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed would hear the contempt of court case against Daniyal Aziz on February 7. The apex court ordered Daniyal Aziz to appear before the court personally.
On February 2, the Supreme Court had issued a contempt of court notice to the Federal Minister for Privatisation Daniyal Aziz. According to sources, the apex court issued the contempt notice over statements made by Aziz during different TV talk shows.
On Thursday, CJP Saqib Nisar took a suo motu notice of “contemptuous speeches” against the judiciary made by the PML-N leader and Minister of State for Interior Affairs Tallal Chaudhry.
Earlier in the day, the court rejected Talal Chaudhry’s appeal seeking three weeks to hire a lawyer in the contempt of court case against him.
According to details, Chaudhry asked the Supreme Court to grant him three weeks to finalise the name of his counsel for the contempt of court proceedings.
During the hearing, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal, the three-member bench asked Chaudhry as how much time he would need to appoint a lawyer. On this, the state minister asked the bench to grant him three weeks as all counsels were currently busy with other cases.
The court issued a show cause notice to the PML-N leader and adjourned the hearing till next Tuesday.
