Had specifically mentioned “forwarded-as-received”, says Dr Shahid Masood in defence

Since when does “forwarding as received” from WhatsApp become a crime?

Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Islamabad, a frazzled Dr Shahid Masood said that his scandalous allegations regarding the Zainab murder case should not make him liable for any punitive action.

“Not only had I merely forwarded-as-received from WhatsApp, generally considered the largest repository of truth in the whole world, but I had also mentioned it as such,” he said. “So I don’t see what the bloody big deal is. I mean come on!”

He went on to say what a big attack it will be on the freedom of speech when journalists and analysts on television are held accountable to the statements they make in public.

He went on to say that this minor lapse – not his fault in the first place – should not tar the stellar work that he had done in the past.

“Only on the basis of the fault of whoever has sent me the initial message (I shall not reveal) people are already forgetting the stories that actually did come true, like the news of the end of times.”
