KARACHI: Following in the footsteps of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L), the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) workers removed the official data of its employees’ attendance at the Sindh Small Industries Corporation (SSIC), Pakistan Today learned on Friday.

According to the sources, SSIC management had installed biometric attendance system at the corporation’s headquarters, located at Regal Chowk, Saddar, to ensure there were no any ghost employees. The biometric machines helped identified more than 85 ghost employees who were later terminated and their salaries stopped, they said.

The corporation had remained under the control of MQM and its workers had also established their unit inside the SSIC office.

The PSP workers at the corporation also announced to launch PSP labor Federation Unit on January 18, however, the SSIC administration issued a circular restraining the employees from taking part in the program.

“All the officers/officials are hereby directed not to conduct any political activities viz a viz conference/seminar/gathering/meeting in the premises of SSIC head office or the building without prior permission of the competent authority. In case of violation of this order, strict disciplinary action will be initiated against the delinquent officers/officials under relevant rules/Act,” the circular read.

According to the sources, on January 18, 2018, PSP workers including Kashif Changezi, Riwan Majeed, Mohsin, Arsalan Siddiqui, Farham Meyo broke the locks of the biometric machine and also forcibly entered into the computer room and erased all the attendance data.

The sources disclosed that PSP workers had earlier also poured a poisonous liquid into the biometric machine for the purpose to make it dysfunctional.

PSP workers also attacked in charge of biometric Mumtaz Tunio who later complained against the attack to the SSIC managing director, but no action was taken at that time.

Initially, SSIC Managing Director Nisar Memon said he was not aware of any such incident, however, later he confirmed the incident.

The biometric machine has been installed again, and it is functioning as per its routine, he said. He said that he will surely launch disciplinary action after the proper investigation against those found to be responsible for this vandalism.
