ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahidullah Khan on Thursday chaired the second meeting of the Houbara Bustard Endowment Fund and Migratory Birds, and discussed the financial rules.

Speaking to the provincial representatives, he said the present government was serious to protect the houbara bustard species in Pakistan. The creation of this fund was a proof of the solid efforts, a press release said.

All provinces needed to work together to spend this money in the right direction.

The participants discussed the financial rules that were set to get the approval from the board. However, many technical issues were pointed out in the financial rules.

The mechanism of the distribution of funds was missing in the rules.

The terminologies used in the documents were not defined. It was also pointed out during the meeting that a third party validation was required to check the number of migratory birds in a particular province.

The matter of appointment of a fund manager was also discussed.

A sub-committee was formulated to resolve all technical issues in the rules.

Mushahidullah said he would nominate people from media outlets and the private sector in the next meeting as a board member under his powers.

He also instructed to eliminate all technical issues in the financial rules and present a complete document in next meeting.

The meeting was attended by Romeena Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Climate Change Secretary Ministry of Climate Change Khizer Hayat, Inspector General Forest Syed Mehmood Nasir, Chief Conservator Umeed Khalid and the representatives of provincial wildlife departments.
