SC expresses annoyance over poor performance of KP prosecution dept

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) Tuesday expressed annoyance over poor performance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) prosecution department in criminal cases and termed its activities a wastage of time and money of the public.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Dost Muhammad Khan remarked that the government was spending millions of rupees on prosecutions, but the performance was still zero. “This prosecution department should be closed down,” he said.

Justice Qazi Faez Esa said that in 2013 the apex court had directed KP government to establish a forensic lab in the province but the government did not execute the court orders.

Justice Dost Muhammad said that most of the people in government departments were dishonest. “A visit of any department will show you that 60 per cent of employees are usually on leave, which goes against the teachings of Islam and Muhammad Ali Jinnah,” he said.

He observed that, “Due to such incompetent prosecutors, small cases are being routinely moved to the apex court. It is a shame because people consider the judiciary as lethargic.”

Justice Dost Muhammad also said that there was a lot of difference between our nation and the nations of developed countries who served their country with honesty.
