LAHORE: Punjab AIDS Control Program Programme (PACP) Director Dr Asim Altaf said in a meeting on Thursday that PACP would open a new centre for HIV/AIDS patients.
He said that the PACP was taking every step to ensure the treatment of patients, adding that an ample amount of anti-retroviral medicines had been made available for patients at all PACT centres. In addition to these medicines, counselling and testing services are provided to patients at the centres, he said.
He further said that in order to ensure the availability of such services across the province, the programme was all set to open a new centre in Jalalpur Jattan, for which the arrangements were almost in place.
Earlier last week, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir inaugurated an HIV treatment centre in Chiniot. The centre, located in Chiniot DHQ, provides counselling and treatment facilities to patients, Dr Asim said.
“The PACP is working under the Primary and Secondary Healthcare department and has set up 15 treatment centres and 11 Voluntary Confidential, Counseling and Testing Centers (VCCT) in the province that provide free services to patients across the Province,” he said.
He further said that the PACP strictly ensured the monitoring and accountability of the organisations working under its ambit, and was adopting measures to ensure transparency and stringent accountability measures.
“The PACP is in process of completing the audit of organisations working under its ambit,” he said.
