Bus crash kills a eight-year old in Karachi; creates chaos

KARACHI: A eight-year-old child was killed and her father critically injured when a speeding bus crashed into a motorcycle in the metropolis’s MA Jinnah Road early on Friday morning.

In reaction to the incident, the distressed local bystanders torched two buses. According to reports, two buses were racing on MA Jinnah Road leading towards Numaish, when one of the buses collided with the motorcycle.

The crowd refused to let members of rescue forces and fire brigades pass through and douse the flames.

According to police sources, the body of the child and injured father were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal tests and treatment respectively.

The bus driver fled from the site of the incident.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Sindh Police AD Khowaja ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. According to directives issued by the IGP Office the provincial

police chief expressing his deep sympathy for the bereaved family ordered both the DIG-South and DIG-Traffic to present detail reports about the accident, that also caused severe injuries to the father of the child.

Later in the day, the accused bus driver Muhammad Salim was arrested along with the owner of the bus, Muhammad Azam.  The people who were involved in torching the bus after the accident have also been arrested, police sources said.

    The majority of coward impassive onlookers, unlike courageous vigilantes , are equally responsible of this fatal offence.
