That’s what she said

The Tube’s schooling, barring a year in Class 4, has been in all-boys institutions. As opposed to our brethren who attended co-ed schools, our lot is accused of having dirty minds. And not incorrectly, I concede. An innocent turn of phrase here and there will immediately be mined for its most risque connotation possible by the machines of filth that our minds became in our formative years.

(It was only much, much later that I learnt that even women who went to all-girls institutions suffer from a similar condition.)

But one doesn’t have to be a degenerate to pick up on the inadvertently inappropriate cheering a wife was doing for her husband on an ARY’s game show. (Online readers can view below.)

Turn on the video in front of timid old grandmothers and expect them to start convulsing. Without the context, if one were to only listen to the audio, one would be forgiven for thinking it was porn. With the context, the video is downright hilarious.

Already, the memeverse – the incredibly talented and underemployed legion of the nation’s men and women who can make fun of anything under the sun with an Amadeus-like facility – is taking this apart. At least one enterprising apparel business had already come out with a t-shirt.

Meanwhile the opposing academics in the nascent field of “Mr and Mrs Ijaz scholarship” are heatedly debating whether or not Mrs Ijaz was doing it on purpose.

One hopes Mr Ijaz has a sense of humor about this whole business. Because the couple’s family and friends are bound to report their fame to them. One hopes things don’t go the way of the now infamous bik-gaee-gormintauntie, who was reportedly being ostracised by her neighbourhood in the aftermath of her fame.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Do keep in mind that something similar could happen to just about anyone. No, you might say. If I were on television, I surely wouldn’t be showing the sort of histrionics that the spirited Mrs Ijaz was.

But are you sure? Do you underestimate the talent of the all-boys-all-girl memeverse?

A phrase within a soundbite can be taken out of context, the video then be put on a loop and voila, you can also find yourself on a t-shirt.

Comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel displayed just how easy it is to make anything seem offensive. Titled “This Week in Unnecessary Censorship,” normal innocuous statements were strategically bleeped. The results were hilarious. (Online readers can click on the link below.)
