LAHORE: As dense smog conditions continue to affect plain areas of Punjab, two more people have been reported killed and ten others injured in traffic accidents as a result of poor visibility on early Monday morning.
As per rescue reports, a person was run over by a car on Shangla road in Shahkot owing to poor visibility. As a result of the accident, the person dies on the spot. The deceased was shifted to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, four people were injured when a car rammed into a bus near Chowk Sarwar Shaheed in Muzaffargarh, rescue officials informed.
Moreover, a car skidded into a drain owing to poor visibility, causing a person to die while injuring three others.
The motorway police have informed that Motorway M-2 from Lillah interchange to Lahore, M-3 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad and M-4 from Gojra to Faisalabad have been closed for all kinds of traffic due to thick smog hampering visibility.
Meanwhile, Punjab government’s spokesperson Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan apprised that as many as 236 industrial units suspected to contribute to pollution have been sealed and a FIR has been registered against 60 units.
In addition, Khan stated that farmers are being warned about the adverse effects of burning crop residue. Also, the provincial government has imposed ‘Section 144’ in the province until December 16 banning farmers from burning leftover crop waste, which is feared to be one of the main contributors to smog in the province.
