Smog to continue in Punjab’s plains for next two weeks: Met office

ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Office spokesman Dr Muhammad Hanif said the current smoggy conditions would continue in plain areas of Punjab for the next two weeks.

The current dry spell would prolong and may continue for several days, he said on Sunday, adding, no rainfall is expected in the next few days.

He told the news agency that due to deficiency of rain, the intensity of prevailing smog will continue in plain areas of Punjab, with a focus in urban areas including Lahore and Faisalabad.

He added that in the middle of November, the concentration of smog would reduce and is expected to convert into the fog which would continue till the occurrence of rain.

However, Dr Hanif stated that one or two light rain spells are likely in upper parts of the country during the second or third week of November, while dry weather would continue in 80 per cent areas of the country until the end of the current month.

Meanwhile, mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country with dense foggy/smoggy conditions over plain areas of Punjab, and foggy over central and lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.

Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country, a Met Office official said.

In the last 24 hours, the weather remained dry in most parts of the country.

The lowest  temperatures recorded on Sunday were: Skardu -03°C, Gilgit 00°C, Islamabad 11°C, Lahore 14°C, Karachi 20°C, Peshawar 13°C, Quetta 04°C, Chitral 03°C, Muzaffarabad 10°C, Murree 08°C, Faisalabad 16°C, Multan 18°C, Hyderabad 21°C, and Dir 03°C.
