National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq remarked on Saturday that there is no room for technocracy in the Constitution, adding that the wishes of “people who have gotten suits and sherwanis stitched will never be fulfilled”.

Talking to reporters on a visit to his constituency—NA-122—in Lahore, he said some political parties have raised their reservations on delimitation, adding efforts are being made to clear their reservations. He shared that the parliament session over the issue will be held on December 8, two days before the deadline.

In an allusion to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) politics, he said people who can’t come to power through votes are trying their best to derail country’s democracy, vowing “they will never succeed in their plans”.

Nawaz was not given protocol, just security; he started the battle against terrorism so he needs to be protected, the speaker said in a reply to a question regarding the protocol given to Nawaz.

On November 2, PTI chief Imran Khan had denounced the protocol under which former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was taken to the Punjab House from the Islamabad airport.

While posting his criticism on Twitter, Imran questioned Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on allowing such a protocol. He added the incumbent prime minister was showing his involvement in helping Nawaz “save his ill-gotten money”.
