ISLAMABAD: The constitutional amendment bill for new delimitation of constituencies met with uproar in the National Assembly on Thursday.
The bill was tabled by Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid.
Taking the floor of the House, PPP’s Naveed Qamar, while opposing the move, stated that the bill would have to be passed first by the Council of Common Interests before it enjoys any support from the lawmakers belonging to the PPP.
PTI legislators also demanded that the security concerns of the PPP be considered regarding the support of the bill.
The session had to be postponed for want of quorum, as a two-thirds majority needed for passage of the bill was absent from the House.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq later met senior PPP leaders Naveed Qamar and Khursheed Shah and asked them to reconsider the matter, but they did not agree.
