Nawaz declared all assets before courts, disqualification based on Iqama: Asif

Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Thursday said that allegations levelled by Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif were not proved, adding Nawaz had declared all assets before the courts but he was disqualified for having “Iqama”.

Talking to a private media outlet, he said the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) was a major political party of the country that has a majority in the parliament. He said that Nawaz was the party president and its guide. Despite illness of his wife, Nawaz Sharif was appearing before the courts, he said, adding that there should be no politics on it.

He said the PML-N ruled over the majority of the country and after coming into power in 2013 general election, it had made efforts for curb the energy crisis along with eliminating terrorism. To a question, Khawaja Asif said that the present government would complete its constitutional tenure and next general election would be held on time.

To another question, he said that Pakistan wanted to have good relations with the United States based on mutual respect, adding Pakistan sacrificed a lot in the war on terrorism. He said that India was involved in human rights violations and killing of innocent Kashmiris. The FM said Pakistan will continue its political, moral and diplomatic support for the cause of Kashmir.
