ISLAMABAD: Ten-year-old Pakistani girl, Zymal Umer, hailing from Sargodha took an eco-friendly initiative, becoming the youngest person in the world to own such a business.

A student of Grade 5, Zymal was disheartened to see plastic bags lying on the streets of her city and causing unnecessary pollution. Speaking to a private news channel, she said that she always wished to replace plastic bags with something which was more environment-friendly.

Three years ago, she took the initiative of making environment-friendly bags from wastepaper which she bought from her own pocket money. She then started a small business of selling those bags to her relatives and friends as well as at fairs. All profits from her sales were then donated to the poor and charities.

In November 2015, Umer was awarded the “Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah International Award” for being world’s youngest and only Pakistani startup at the International Business Conference.

Her father, Faisal Razzaq Khawaja, is very proud of her achievements and the fact that she did not depend on anyone and instead took the initiative herself.
