ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), on the directives of the federal government, is working on a project to establish a water link from Indus River Tarbella to Islamabad, to find a lasting solution to the problem of water shortage in the capital.
According to an official of CDA, the first phase of the project was likely to be completed in four years and would bring 200 MGD from Indus River.
The official said that efforts were underway to fulfill the water requirement of the federal capital, adding that due to abrupt increase in the population of the capital city, water shortage issue was being faced by citizens, especially during summer season.
The CDA official that the water link from Tarbella would resolve the problem of water shortage in the city, while adding that the authority was also planning to replace the water connections and lines in the federal capital to save the portable water in the city. He also appealed to citizens to avoid misuse of water so that it could be made available to all citizens.
