Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rasheed on Friday predicted mass desertions in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), saying around 40 ruling party lawmakers, including the entire party leadership of South Punjab, were now ready to leave the ruling party.

Addressing a rally outside Lal Haveli in Rawalpindi, Rasheed said that many PML-N heavyweights, including Nawaz loyalist Saad Rafique and critic Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan were preparing to jump ships. He went on claim that even Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi would leave the party. “The PML-N’s disintegration has begun,” he said.

He also criticised Maryam Nawaz, saying she comes to the court with a protocol as if she was the prime minister of the country.

He said those looting the country’s assets were now retaliating too. “These are the people who deposited $33 million in a foreign bank,” adding, “Each and every document relating to the transaction is there to prove their guilt.”

Earlier while talking to a private media outlet, Rasheed said that the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif should give an explanation about the reality of the 19 companies that exist under his Iqama (Saudi foreign work permit). He said that around 40 PML-N members who are “wearing joggers” are ready to run; it’s just a matter of time.
