ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Monday admitted for hearing an appeal plea filed against the high court decision regarding appointment of vice chancellors in public sector universities of Punjab. The court has issued a notice to the office of Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) in this regard.
The case was heard by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.
During the hearing, the counsel for petitioner adopted the stance that the provincial government had no authority to set standard terms of reference in connection with appointment of vice chancellors in universities. They maintained that instead the function of setting the standard terms of reference lay solely with the federal government for the appointment of vice chancellors.
Following the hearing, the apex court had accepted the appeal against the decision of the high court and issued a notice to the AGP in this regard.
