Kidnapped fisherman released

NAUDERO: Abducted fisherman Muhammad Hashim Mirbahar, 45, has been released by his kidnappers and he reached his home here in the wee hours of Sunday.

He told newsmen that he was busy fishing in the Indus river when 14 armed bandits forced him to take them to another side of the river where they made him captive. They phoned his relatives and demanded Rs300,000 as ransom, he added.

He said that due to timely arrival and closure of all paths by area police, they released him at midnight after which he reached home safely.  He also said that he did not pay any ransom money for his release.

Ketty Mumtaz police station SHO Ali Murtaza Chandio said that dacoits were demanding extortion money on the telephone from the fisherman and due to non-payment they kidnapped him. He further claimed that due to the timely action of the police, hardened criminals and habitual offenders of law had no other way except to set him free.

A large number of Mirbahar community people reached the house of Hashim and congratulated him for his safe release.
