DUBAI: Pakistan suffered a major setback ahead of the ODI series against Sri Lanka when 25-year-old left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Aamir was ruled out of the five-match series due to a stress injury in his right shin.

Amir was taken off the field during the second day of Dubai test on Saturday after the fast bowler had bowled 19.3 overs against Sri Lankan batsmen.

A statement from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that the fast bowler underwent MRI scans after complaining about pain in his shin and after undergoing the required medical procedure, he had been advised two to three weeks of complete rest.

The statement also said that “Amir will not bowl in the on-going test match at the Dubai Cricket Stadium, but would be available to bat.” In the meantime, Amir’s replacement in ODI squad would be announced shortly.

Aamir, after making a successful comeback to international cricket in January 2016, had bowled 821.3 overs across all three formats of international cricket, the third fast bowler to do so after Kagiso Rabada (896.3) and Josh Hazlewood (846.1).
