MULTAN: Senior politician Javed Hashmi, welcoming the Election Bill 2017, said the act would protect political parties from disintegration as well as strengthen democratic values in future.

Addressing a press conference here Wednesday, he urged the political forces not to make the new law controversial.

He called for accepting parliament’s supremacy over all public institutions under the constitution. “Let’s repose confidence in the parliament, and bury the hatchet in the national interest,” he remarked.

He also urged upon the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to take immediate action against those who made amendment in the clause of Khatm-i-Naboowat (finality of prophethood) law.

He said that attempt of amending this clause was a conspiracy and it should be exposed.

Responding to a question, Hashmi said the sitting government should be given due time to complete its tenure. He also mentioned that the country was passing through a difficult period, and it was the responsibility of the sitting government to run the affairs in a smooth way.
