MNA approaches NAB to investigate misappropriation of Swat University funds

PESHAWAR: Sitting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Musarrat Ahmed Zeb approached the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding embezzlement of funds in a project worth Rs 2.5 billion by officials of University of Swat.

According to details, the board meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) NAB was held on Friday under the chairmanship of KP NAB Director General Brigadier (r) Farooq Naser Awan, in which several complaints were processed. The board authorised inquiries in to existing complaints and upgraded cases to investigations regarding corrupt practices.

It is pertinent to mention here that the complaint was brought to the notice of NAB authorities by sitting MNA Mussarat Zeb against University of Swat. She alleged in the complaint that university officials ignored the recommendations submitted in a report of Special Evaluation Committee for identification of suitable land for establishment of the said university and concealed the report from the university board for its approval, thus causing a loss of Rs 2.5 billion to the national exchequer.

As a result, funds amounting to Rs 127.485 million allocated by federal government for construction of the university building have also lapsed.

NAB also started probe into corruption cases at Peshawar Communication and Works Department and Mechatec Pvt Ltd regarding corruption in installation of sub-standard air-conditioning (AC) units at Peshawar Lady Reading Hospital Cardiology Department.
