GUJRANWALA: In trying to pay off a loan he owned to his factory owner, a kiln worker lost his life on Tuesday after undergoing a surgery to sell his kidney.

A kiln worker became yet another victim of the kidney mafia when he sold his organ in an attempt to repay a loan.

Khizar Hayat from Sheikhupura had a loan of Rs 250,000 which he had taken to meet his daily expenses. He used to work at a brick kiln factory in Gujranwala, along with his family, for low wages.

When the pressure from the factory owner increased, Khizar received advice from his brother-in-law who suggested that he sell his kidney to repay the loan.

Khizar’s brother-in-law Sajjad arranged a meeting with two persons named Allah Dutta and Shabbir. The surgery to take out Khizar’s kidney was conducted in Lahore, where he died as a result. Subsequently, his body was thrown at the kiln factory.

An FIR was registered against the unidentified doctor, two other suspects and Khizar’s brother-in-law at Saddar Town Police Station.
