KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that genuine issues of the journalist community would be resolved on a priority basis.
He stated this while talking to a five-member delegation of Karachi Press Club (KPC), led by its President Siraj Ahmed and General Secretary Maqsood Ahmed Yousufi, which called on him on Wednesday. Information Secretary Imran Atta Soomro, Labour Secretary Abdul Rasheed Solangi, SESSI Commissioner Farooq Leghari, Press Club office bearers including Naimat Khan, Saeed Sarbazi and Shams Keerio were also present.
The delegation apprised the minster about the progress on issuance of health cards and insurance to the journalists. They also briefed him about the welfare, treatment facilities and other issues faced by the journalist community, including pending issues of allotment of residential schemes for journalists in MDA and LDA since 1996. They said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had always taken positive steps for the well-being of journalists as the announcement of allotment (which has been pending since 1996) was committed by the late Benazir Bhutto.
Nasir Hussain Shah assured the delegation that all their genuine issues would be resolved by inviting the Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah in Press Club, to release the annual grant of Press Club and issue health cards and insurance.
He further said that the matter of pending allotments of MDA & LDA would also be resolved through transparent balloting, which will be held without further delay very soon, as the commitment and promise of Benazir Bhutto will be fulfilled on priority.
Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, while paying rich tributes to the armed forces on the Defence Day, said that the day reminds us the courage, bravery and unity of our forces that fought against Indian aggression. He said that due to the Nuclear Program of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Pakistan stands today as a sovereign nation with pride and dignity; its defence is unshakeable and strong, he said.
He also lauded the services of the Pakistan Army.
