Turkish Interior Ministry has launched a new practice of warning via SMS those driving for holiday on Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).
The ministry sends the text “You are on the road where the most fatal accidents happen on holidays,” to those who are at break points in five areas where traffic accidents increased.
“Please follow the rules. Do not speed. Also wear your belt on the rear seat,” said the SMS message.
The ministry increased traffic controls during the Sacrifice holiday. The Interior Ministry has also used Twitter to warn drivers, especially of heavy vehicles and buses, about accidents.
Eight people were killed and 550 others were injured in a total of 300 road accidents across Turkey in the first two days of the extended 10-day Eid al-Adha, the Interior Ministry has announced on Monday.
