Abdul Razzaq asks PCB to let him be DSP on duty during World XI series as farewell gesture

LAHORE – After the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that former captains Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, and Shahid Afridi would be given a formal farewell, star all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has demanded one for himself as well.

Razzaq who formally retired from international cricket earlier this year, despite last playing an international match four years ago, said he would like to be appointed as the Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) on duty during the series World XI next month.

“Since I was the only cricketer demanding the farewell, I thought maybe I should also demand what that farewell should be,” Razzaq told The Dependent.

The all-rounder who won many matches for Pakistan with both bat and ball said that he had always felt he was meant for Punjab Police.

“I think I have that vibe, that aura… wouldn’t you agree?” he asked. “I really hope PCB gives me the farewell that a cricketer of my stature deserves.”

Razzaq further added that if he’d opted for a career in police, he would’ve been an all-rounder there as well.

“I think my phaintee with the bat was already there to qualify me as a cop,” he said. “Unless the criminal is a spinner, of course.”
