HYDERABAD: University of Sindh Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Fatah Muhammad Burfat held a meeting with Hyderabad Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo here on Monday and sought his support and cooperation for construction of service roads and a pedestrian bridge in front of the university on Indus Highway in a bid to save the lives of students in future.
According to the university spokesman, Dr Burfat also briefed the commissioner on the unfortunate incidents in which SU bore the irreparable loss of a number of its students.
He informed that the fatal accidents had taken place at the Indus and Super Highways and these all happened because of the absence of service roads and overhead pedestrian bridges at its entry-exit points.
The varsity has also been facing the challenge of the ill-located CNG and fuel stations as these both are situated at the very face of the Indus Highway, making it virtually impossible for all incoming and outgoing vehicles to seek refill without the potential risk of meeting an accident, Dr Burfat said.
He also shared with the commissioner the nascent long-standing issue of illegal encroachments of the varsity lands at diverse locations by some powerful individuals and some land mafia groups, complaining as to how entire millions worth land strips at the campus premises had been subjected to unlawful occupation.
The vice chancellor informed that he joined Sindh University with a vision and commitment and wanted to implement one-point agenda, which was to elevate the university in all terms.
The commissioner assured the vice chancellor his full support and cooperation to redress the indicated issues.
The commissioner also eulogised Dr Burfat’s concerted efforts towards enhancing the quality of education and his concern for the safety and security of university students, faculty, officers, employees, families and Jamshoro community.
