LAHORE: After 15 continuous days of strike and boycotting hospital duties, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Tuesday finally announced to call off their strike, following successful negotiations with the Punjab Government.

The young doctors are expected to resume their hospital duties from today onwards. This strike caused huge inconvenience to patients as there was a serious dearth of doctors to tend to them, in all indoor, and emergency wards in state-run hospitals across Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan.

Their demands were A) to have the new provincial health secretary, Najam Ahmad Shah, removed from his position and B) the revocation of the Centralised Induction Policy (CIP), introduced by him.

Their argument was that the CIP is biased towards the graduates who’ve received their medical degrees from government colleges.

The YDA was invited by the Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique for negotiations last week, which have been successful according to reports.
